ACEARD is concerned with the increasing threats and suffering of local communities caused by climate change. We have therefore directed our focus towards addressing the effects of climate change and environmental degradation in Africa. We work directly with the local communities, policy makers and young people to develop projects, share good practices and ideas toward climate change solution, environmental protection and disaster risk reduction.
We focus on climate education, public participation and access to information on climate actions. we strongly advocate for climate actions that protect our environment. Strong promoter of green jobs and support for climate change adaptation programmes in vulnerable communities.
To achieve this, we host campaigns, workshops/ seminars, community and media outreach on how best to reduce carbon footprint. We also initiate projects that improve local communities’ capacity to adapt to climate change and prevent or manage climate related disasters. Our flagship programmes of engagement on climate change are the #ACEARD Climate Dialogue and #ACEARD Green Champion.
The ACEARD Climate Dialogue is a flagship initiative of the African Centre for Environment, Agriculture & Rural Development where policy makers, private sector, academia, farmers, civil society, media are engaged in series of discussions around climate issues, actions and how to foster low-carbon and high-growth economic development while building a climate resilient society in Africa.
ACEARD Green Champion is a based initiative aimed at creating awareness in school on impacts of climate change to the environment and how human activities can be managed to ensure peaceful co-existence with nature.
